bird’s got rhythm: so aniruddh patel at the neurosciences institute studied snowball the cockatoo and found that the bird’s tapping rhythm was indeed (loosely) related to the rhythm of the music, as reported in a story in this week’s nature. i was amused by the fact that he found it necessary to relate his results to the fact that beats can sometimes help parkinsons patients initiate movements. we live (and have perhaps always lived) in a narrowly utilitarian world, which demands instant payback for its “investments”…

moe is on the lam: celebrity chimp moe, 42, has escaped from the animal sanctuary that courts forced his owners to put him in. btw, his owner was horrendously mauled sometime back by two other escaped chimps when he went to visit moe with a cake at another sanctuary… life is strange.

to cover a horse: now i know what that means. apparently champion horse war emblem is not interested in mares. these guys are wondering if he is “gay”, something that is apparently unheard of in champion horses. others think he is just immature and needs to realize that he is a stud… c’est la vie.
